2nd Grade Newsletter 2022
Hello From St. John’s Second Grade!
February sure was a busy month in second grade! It was a time we focused on sharing an extra measure of love and kindness to those around us, especially focusing on the immense love that we receive from our Lord and Savior. A love so great that he sacrificed his Son in our place. How blessed are we to be on the receiving end of that love!
Second grade is a wonderful year and time when students build growth and confidence in their academic skills, become more independent and we also have a lot of fun!
February was filled with many special events. We celebrate Groundhog’s Day with a story and video that helps us learn facts all about the groundhog. It was fun to write about what we learned! We celebrated God’s love for us and our friendship with each other during our Heart’s for Jesus party. We are very excited to have parents volunteer their time and spend the afternoon with us doing games, crafts, snacks and of course sharing valentines with each other. The 100th Day of School was another special day students enjoyed celebrating. They even had fun dressing up as older people. The class also took time during the month to learn about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln in honor of President’s Day. Students are learning about heroes in social studies and understanding how to research information about a famous person from history and present their information in a Google slides show. These are just some of the special things that took place this past month..
During the school year, 2nd graders enjoy Star of the Week. We love learning more about the wonderful friends God has given us through each student’s special sharing week. Each of us is made unique and special by God and we enjoy celebrating each other.
We had a blast celebrating Lutheran Schools Week the last week of January. With special dress up days, favorite lunches, a field trip, virtual mission trip and an opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus through a service project (just a few of the many exciting events of that week), we were able to have fun but also reflect on the blessing this school is to so many people. We love our St. John’s family!
Second graders work hard to advance their skills in the world of writing through poems, stories, journal entries and book reports, just to name a few. You can always find something to read in our classroom. We of course LOVE to read and are learning new words and sounds all the time as we build vocabulary, expression and fluency. Reading different levels of chapter books is always a new and exciting thing. Students look forward to a fun animal research and writing project at the end of the year. They will also make a paper mache model of that animal. Using our chromebooks is a daily occurence. We’re learning how to become better typists as well as learning basic computer knowledge and tools in Google Apps along with coding. There are so many fun things we love to learn and do in 2nd grade!
It is a blessing to be able to attend our wonderful school where we can pray, learn and talk about Christ, be in God’s Word and express our love for Jesus everyday. We are looking forward to writing prayers. Each student will lead the school in morning prayer this spring. We thank God for all that he gives us, and even though times may be uncertain, it is our faith in Him that reminds us we are more than conquerors through him and his love for us.. As we fix our eyes on the cross in the coming Lent season, we remember the gift of his gracious love, forgiveness and salvation that came through Christ’s death and resurrection. In the spirit of love that fills our hearts a bit more this month, the students would like to share with you why/what they love about St. John’s.
In His Perfect Love,
