Grandparent’s Day 2018
What comes to mind when you think of your grandparents? Maybe you think of a special food, going on trips, sleepovers, reading stories, taking walks, doing projects. . .the list could go on and on. Grandparents fill a very special role in the lives of children and the time you spend together now will make wonderful memories in the future. On Tuesday, November 19th we were blessed with the opportunity to help make memories for our students and their grandparents when we celebrated Grandparent’s Day.
Upon arrival, grandparents enjoyed fellowship with one another, before students joined and we opened our day in song and prayer, giving thanks to God for our school and all the special loved ones who could gather together. Afterwards, grandparents enjoyed a morning spent with their grandchild(ren) participating in a wide variety of activities throughout the school. They were able to partake in Thanksgiving themed art projects, a photo booth picture stop, games and puzzles, a computer lab activity, Thanksgiving themed STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) activities and two service projects that included making placemats and table tents with Bible verses for those at Auburn Manor. Along with these activities, the Scholastic Book Fair was here and provided an opportunity for families to purchase books, supporting St. John’s and their grandchild’s reading.
At the end of our morning, we gathered together once again for our closing chapel lead by students and Pastor Barry. His message focused on this year’s school theme which comes from Ephesians 2: 10 and reads, “For we are God’s masterpiece, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” We are all created unique, according to his likeness and everyday we learn in new ways just how special and important each of us is. And although we are all created different as individuals, we are all the same in that we are blessed by a God who continually forgives us, loves us and showers us with abundant gifts beyond our measure.
Thank you to everyone who attend Grandparent’s Day and for being a part of your grandchild’s faith walk. Our staff is honored and privileged to teach your precious young ones.
We pray this day has been another special memory made for both grandparents and grandchildren.
