Minnesota Lutherans for Life Essay Winner and Honorable Mentions
Lutherans For Life (LFL) sponsors two essay contests for Grades 6-8 and Grades 9-12 each year. This past spring, the 7th and 8th graders at St. John’s Lutheran School completed research and chose themes for their essays focused on the Lutherans for Life Conference theme; “From Invisible to Indispensable…” The theme is based on the Scripture that says, “They referenced the Bible verse from 1 Corinthians 12:22, “On the contrary, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable.” The 2020 Minnesota finalists won based on their personal insights into life issues.
Madison McGlothlin and Joelle Sihombing were honored as honorable mentions. What an honor! This is the first year that honorable mentions were given, which was a decision based on the quality and number of the essays this year.
We are excited to announce that Reese Merritt is a Lutherans for Life-Minnesota State Winner for 2020. “The Handicapped are a gift to this world that come in a different package, deserve a chance at life, and are indispensable,” stated Reese in her essay.
What a blessing! The essays students wrote clearly showed they understand life’s issues and God’s love For Life as they wrote from their hearts what they see in Scripture. Reese’s winning essays will be included in the LFL National Essay Contest. All the students in Minnesota who entered the contest through their school, church, or home school are winners. A special thank you as well to all the teachers, parents, and pastors who supported these students during the essay process. To God be the glory!
