1st Grade Newsletter

We are busy bees in First grade.  We are busy learning how to read and write.  We LOVE listening to stories, but also LOVE creating our own stories in our writing journals.

Our class, made up of 16 girls and 7 boys, led Chapel for the whole school around Valentine’s Day telling everyone about God’s LOVE!  What a great opportunity to show kindness and love to all people.  We want to share the wonderful news to everyone!

We have been counting the days of school to the much anticipated 100th day of school and we made it!!    The 100th day was celebrated by doing all kinds of special “100 Day” activities such as making something out of 100 objects, doing 100 jumping jacks, number patterns, and racing to 100. We LOVED when Zero the Hero would come and visit each decade number bringing a special circular treat.

We started saying Memory work each week, learning Bible verses and the 10 Commandments.

We LOVE our Reading Buddies!  We get together with our 7th grade Reading Buddy on Friday afternoons and read books together.  We LOVE listening to stories that they read to us, but now we are reading to them also showing off our great reading skills.  It is wonderful to watch these relationships form.

First graders LOVE getting on the bus and going on field trips!  We traveled to the Arboretum in October and learned all about apples!  We enjoyed the play “Snow White and Rose Red” at Sidekick Theater.  We went bowling during Lutheran Schools Week.  We will visit the Minnesota History Center in March.  A walking community field trip to area businesses this coming spring is always a highlight in first grade.

Always remember that God LOVES you very much!
